Below I’ll quote from a study about serotonin and melatonin which commands attention, alongside 10 key facts and statistics I’ve collated.
Prepare to be alarmed.
And seriously so.
But first, here is an entertaining song on topic to start the day, ‘The Cellphone Song,’ by Trillion, courtesy of youtube:
My guess is that over 99% of people reading this right now will at some point today use a mobile/cell phone.
Kevin and I have been writing this blog for over two months, now, and that impels me to give you the “straight shoot” all the more. As Bob Dylan once sang, “Let us not talk falsely now – the hour is getting late!” Or, to quote another American singer-songwriter, Tracy Chapman, it’s best to “Tell it like it is!” So: I count myself fortunate that I will be outside of this 99th percentile, for the sake of my sperm, my DNA, cancer prevention and a host of other reasons. But – purely for starters – let’s look at some facts about depression and insomnia which should be enough to knock a dent in the profits of mobile phone companies by reducing usage among clear-thinking populations. . .
For any readers in Ireland, don’t miss the exciting public talks we’re organising this coming weekend in County Galway, Ireland, with guest speaker Art Kab, international EMF expert who has travelled here all the way from Japan, and who will be joined by Dublin-based John Weigel and Pauline Keeley of the Alliance for Irish Radiation Protection. We sought to bring these speakers together at a local event in order to help raise awareness. More details follow below. We’re also considering the possibility of videoing the presentations, and speaking for myself I’m eagerly looking forward to hearing what they all have to say! These upcoming talks have prompted me to prepare a blog today as the first in a series about electrosmog.
Guess what? Art Kab doesn’t own a mobile/cell phone. Nor do I. Yet I have to ask myself – why is it that I can count on the fingers of my two hands the number of people I know who can say the same?
I hasten to add that I am not, by any means, a Luddite, and nor is Art! Believe me, we are not living in caves chewing on old bones in the dirt. . . ;-) We consider ourselves forward-thinking, progressive individuals. I use the phone daily – just not a mobile or cordless one. I believe there is no reason for a clear-thinking person to do so, when a landline phone is perfectly adequate. I’d rather stick to a landline than risk my life as well as contributing to the endangerment of several species – ours and a number of our animal and insect compatriots. . .
Logical as this may be, one of the subjects which Art Kab writes about is ‘critical theory’ – the fact that learning to think critically and logically, and to draw sensible inferences about things, has not so far been a part of most educational systems. Or to put it bluntly, most of us have not been trained, as we grew up, how to think sensibly and make sensible choices, as evidenced by the rising rate of addiction to wireless communications among people all around.
We’ve invited Art to share more on this and other topics in future blogs at this site, and we look forward to hearing more from him as his ideas are very powerful and hold great transformative potential to help make the world a better place to live. Since he recently left Japan abruptly with his son, as a result of the radiation leakage from Fukushima nuclear plant, he has been visiting fellow activists in Europe, and it has been a pleasure for us that he made it to Ireland.
So far, four key topics (among others) which stand out as major themes we have not yet covered in their own right in our blogs but aim to do so soon in greater depth, include: electrosmog; nutrition; Field Control Therapy; mercury toxicity and detoxification. So – let’s start today with the first of these.
Electrosmog is a word we use to refer to the harmful effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields/radiation, often abbreviated as EMFs or EMR. There are many categories of effects, and I won’t be covering them all here at once. There would be no point in doing so, as there is far too much science to take on board in one chunk. Instead, I’ll aim just to single out startling and pertinent facts and observations in relation to EMFs, one blog at a time, in a more focused fashion, starting today with serotonin and melatonin – and, correspondingly, depression, insomnia and cancer.
I’ll make a list below. Here, surely, is some food for thought:
1. There were 34,598 cases of suicide in the USA in 2007, one suicide every 15.2 minutes, with suicide being listed as the eleventh leading cause of death, and up to 80% of suicides due to depression.
2. About 35 to 40 million people in the USA will suffer from major depression at some time during their lives.
3. Ten times more people born since 1945 suffer from depression than those born before 1945, demonstrating that it is not due to an inherent or genetic chemical imbalance.
4. The rate of depression is growing in all age groups and in virtually all communities, and at the current rate of increase is on target to become the second most disabling condition in the world by 2020.
5. One report stated that the rate of depression doubled in the USA over the course of the decade after mobile/cell phones were introduced.
6. Mobile/cell phone users:
– USA has 311 million people and 303 million cell phones (3rd biggest user after China and India)
– UK has 62 million people and 76 million mobile phones (14th biggest user by country)
– the World has 6.9 billion people and over 5 billion mobile phones
Go figure.
7. Number of people in the USA suffering from insomnia (sleep disorder) estimated at 32 million.
8. Average distance between people’s bedrooms and the nearest cell/mobile phone tower/mast: Astonishingly, I have been unable to locate any statistics on this whatsoever. Given the content of this article, is this information deficit in terms of average bedroom-mast distances not a huge oversight? What are we paying taxes to our governments for? Why is no one (apparently) monitoring this sort of data? Ditto for statistics of average radiation levels in people’s bedrooms – worldwide, and by country. The world has been turned into an EMF “fishtank” live experiment, and it seems that no one is even keeping proper track of key experimental measurements.
9. Anti-depressants are the most prescribed medication of any. In the year 2005, 118 million antidepressants were prescribed in the USA, with 27 million users (10% of the population, or 1 in 10 people). Usage of SSRIs (a class of antidepressant known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) TRIPLED in the USA during the decade after cell/mobile phone technology was introduced – an especially interesting fact in light of point ten below.
10. Quotation from a 2007 German study (Kempten West) in which the effects of mobile phone radiation on serotonin and melatonin were reported as follows:
Especially alarming is the fact that 84% of participants, almost the whole group, reacted with a massive decrease in the serotonin level (average 46%) following increased exposure from the operation of the newly erected telecommunications mast.
The clear increase in depressive mood disturbances, lethargy and listlessness, appetite disturbances, inner agitation and reduced quality of life experienced by nearly all nearby residents must be acknowledged by orthodox medicine…
Alarming is also the fairly steep nightly melatonin decrease in the presence of increasing telecommunication signal exposure, which is nearly half of the normal level for more than half of the group (56%)… Melatonin represents one of the most important immune enhancing substances of our body and, as a free radical scavenger, it protects all body- and brain cells against genetic damage considered as a precursor to cancer…
Since the group of participants had no other obvious change in their living conditions, apart from the operation of the mobile telecommunications mast with the measured, appreciably increased radiation exposure, it must be assumed that there is a direct relationship.
Below follows our press release of the talks taking place in Galway this weekend:
_________
Shocking Health Hazards & Environmental Impact of Wireless Communications
‘It’s shocking, that people are not aware of the consequences of microwave radiation.’
John Ryan, Tipperary farmer
Ryan, his family and farm animals all suffered various effects from microwaves which ended when he successfully had a mast removed from his land.
Venue: Ballymacward Community Hall
Day 1:
Saturday 7th May, 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Presenters: Art Kab; and John Weigel and Pauline Keeley from the Alliance for Irish Radiation Protection.
This first talk will cover the fundamentals, a local action plan for reduction of mobile phone mast signals, and a Q/A session.
Day 2:
Sunday 8th May 7 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Presenter: Art Kab goes into greater depth on the science of health and environmental effects.
Art will also share his personal story and experiences, with use of fascinating visuals.
Topics:
- Weak regulation status of wireless radiation in Ireland
- Widespread environmental effects, including those on bees, frogs, birds and farm animals
- Documented health effects on humans, including DNA damage, cancer, autism, ADHD, chronic fatigue, depression and epilepsy. Intensified health damage to children and babies
- Precise pragmatic action plan for Woodlawn and neighbouring communities: campaign for the signal to be turned down on local masts, by as much as ten times, without loss of benefit for users yet with ten-fold less health and environmental effects
A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME opportunity to learn first-hand the most up-to-date science and practical tips to protect yourself.
The Speakers:
Art Kab, M.A., M.A.T., is a leading international expert on electrosmog. He has worked in Japan at several universities as an associate professor. He publishes a newsletter, EMR Updates, which is widely read and respected by scientists and enthusiasts around the globe. Art has been researching the health and environmental effects of electromagnetic radiation for the past six years and seeks to raise awareness. He suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and was able to connect it to the cell phone masts in the vicinity of his home at the time. He recovered after living in a radio-wave free zone, or white zone, for four months in 2005. Art has just left Japan following the recent nuclear plant disaster at Fukushima and is visiting friends in Woodlawn, Co. Galway.
Alliance for Irish Radiation Protection: John Weigel is a writer / researcher and key national figure in the campaign to raise awareness of the hazards of wireless technology. Based in Dublin, he is a member of the Alliance, a confederation of groups around the country that are pressing for the establishment of human and animal safety standards. Ireland has allowed testing in a live environment which is against the Nuremberg Code, and there is no monitoring of the total level of microwave radiation. Activist and mother-of-five, Pauline Keeley has been a long-time advisor to communities around the country in their struggle for a safe environment.
We all know someone with cancer, autism, ADHD, chronic fatigue, depression or epilepsy and owe it to them to learn more and help prevent further suffering
